Fruit of the Spirit: Joy

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in HIm, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Rom 15:13 NIV

You know what? I never knew what true joy was till I felt the joy of the Holy Spirit. I never felt that in my life until after my baptism by water in 2015. I think that joy is short changed by the word happiness that we label as joy. It’s not the butterflies you fell when you are in love. It’s not the joy of a roller coaster ride. It’s not the joy of chocolate birthday cake. It’s so much more.

It’s understanding that we are redeemed to our Father God through the love and death of His Son our Savior Jesus Christ. It’s understanding that we are forgiven and given a place with God in His eternal Kingdom.

Do we really understand that? Do we understand we no longer need to fear death? We are adopted into Gods family and no matter what our lives have brought us to or through we are His children. How does that make you feel? That feeling is joy. That is joy. In that joy is life, love, peace, happiness, comfort, and security forever…. FOREVERMORE.

Joy is the feeling when something impossible happens in this world of sin that shouldn’t have happened. Joy is the unexplainable birth of a baby. It’s the unexplained flight of a bumble bee. It’s the opening of a flower, or the hum of a hummingbirds wings. Its Gods grace. It’s Jesus’s life. It’s unnatural and fills ones body from head to toe with a warmth of expectation and excitement. It’s a gift from our Father.

I pray that today, you will overflow with that joy as you accept the hope of our future with him. A joy that only He can bless you with through the power of the Holy Spirit. May He bless you with that Joy today.

With love,
ToniLynn
